The Guild

By MarionMade! on March 16, 2017

 ART IN THE MAKING
After years of traveling in search of beautiful art pieces and talented artists, Marion native and downtown resident, Carol Nelson decided Marion needed an art gallery. In 2008, her vision was realized when she opened The Guild. Soon after opening, their first artist, William Obenour, was introduced. William, also a Marion native, was asked why he choose to stay in Marion and he said, “I stayed because I wanted to make a difference here. It’s a great city, and doesn’t feel overwhelming.”
The following year Ben Kern joined the list of artists. Ben states the opportunity is what drew him here, “If you dig a little you can find a whole new life.”
Located on W. Center St. in downtown Marion, The Guild is a great place to visit. If you’re interested in experiencing art in the making, looking for a one of a kind gift, or just feel like learning, The Guild easily becomes a classroom for teaching.
The Guild has a membership of 20 artists with the main criteria being from Marion. William and Ben enjoy being involved in the community. When projects occur and they can lend a helping hand, they are sure to do so. Their creativity has been used for things such as parade floats and donating their artwork to support local Marion fundraising efforts.
