Alloway – Environmental Services & More

By MarionMade! on January 22, 2021

Incorporated in 1982, Alloway’s path to success began when owner, John Hoffman started his career at Alloway in 1979 as the sole laboratory analyst for the company. Two years later, John purchased the company and expanded the operation to include a total of 3 employees. Alloway continued to grow in size and analytical capabilities, and in 1986, Alloway purchased Lexington Scientific Lab in Mansfield, Ohio. The largest growth occurred in 2006, with the purchase of Aqua Tech Environmental Laboratory in Mario. This allowed Alloway to enter the drinking water market for Ohio and offer testing services certified by the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. Over the years, Alloway has grown to include three locations and over 80 employees.

Hoffman Analytic Services, Inc. DBA Alloway is a full-service environmental laboratory specializing in analyses on drinking water, wastewater, and solid and hazardous waste. Alloway is certified as a Veteran-Owned Small Business with corporate headquarters located in Lima and additional laboratories in Marion and Mansfield.

Much of Alloway’s success in the industry is attributed to its commitment to providing defensible data and differentiating itself from other environmental laboratories. “Unlike other environmental laboratories focused solely on providing testing services, our vision to be the ultimate laboratory resource encompasses the wide range of services Alloway offers,” stated Jessica Begonia, Director of Marketing for Alloway. “We generate defensible data. We staff industrial laboratories. We partner with non-competing commercial laboratories. We provide innovative software solutions. We travel the country providing laboratory development and analyst training.”

Alloway continues to push forward with innovative ideas and creative products and services designed to meet the needs of the environmental monitoring industry. In 2018, Alloway became the exclusive distributor in the United States for Surcis respirometry products. The use of respirometry as an operational tool in the wastewater treatment field has emerged over the past several decades as a powerful aid in understanding and troubleshooting the activated sludge process. Then in 2019, Alloway started EnviroGo, a new division that specializes in customized, mobile monitoring and sampling stations. These innovative 4’ by 6’ trailers provide everything needed for environmental sampling and monitoring in one convenient, mobile unit.

Active in the community, Alloway is involved in community service and volunteerism, including:

  • Ottawa River Coalition
  • State of Ohio Adopt-a-Highway Program
  • Johnny Appleseed Park District
  • Kids Count Too and Crossroad Child and Family Services- Alloway employees donate items

A major part of Alloway’s success is being active in the water and wastewater industries. Alloway maintains individual and/or corporate memberships in a number of national, regional, and state organizations with Alloway officers and employees serving the industry and community in leadership roles.

Alloway recently participated in the Water Environment Federation’s Virtual Technical Exhibition and Conference. At this national conference, they introduced several new product and service offerings that will improve sampling and analysis in the field of wastewater treatment and environmental testing.
