Owners Dave and Lynn Roush are proud of what their pub has been able to contribute to downtown Marion. The Scottish pub at 130 S. Prospect Street offers more than 200 varieties of whisky as well as a unique selection of seasonal drinks and Scottish craft beers.
“Try the smoked Old Fashioned. You won’t be disappointed,” said Dave Roush.
In addition to whisky, the pub also has wines and a good selection of mixed drinks.
Axe Throwing Adventures
In the rear of the establishment are the axe throwing lanes. Kin & Kilt is proud to be a part of the World Axe Throwing League. Each patron receives a safety lesson and instruction on the sport.
“We have lane coaches who will help you and go over the rules. They will watch you throw. If you’re struggling, they will step in an offer some pointers on how to release the axe so it will stick on the board. They won’t hover over you but they will give you some pointers to make sure the axe will stick!” said General Manager Jennie Moodespaugh.
Kin & Kilt Makes Safety A Priority
Just like the lanes of Buckeye Lanes, which used to occupy 130 S. Prospect Street, there are ten lanes which are fenced in for safety. Reservations for lanes are encouraged.
All patrons throwing axes must wear closed-toe shoes and sign a waiver. Minors ages 12 to 17 can participate with their guardians. Axe-throwing leagues are also enjoying this venue. Patrons can only have one drink before throwing.
“We have a league every season. We just finished with our fall season. Our winter-fall league starts Jan. 16. They are 8-week leagues. At the end of every league we have a tournament,” Moodespaugh said.
Food and Special Events
Located in the heart of Marion’s downtown revitalization zone, the Kin & Kilt offers Scottie Dogs. These are made-to-order Vienna beef hot dogs, veggie dogs, jumbo hot dogs and kids meals.
“We’re more than axe-throwing. We host live music, puzzle nights, trivia nights and bar bingo,” Moodespaugh said.
The pub also offers space for events and receptions.
“We have an event room called the Lochroom that can hold up to 40 people. We host events from birthday parties, Christmas parties, work events, graduations, rehearsal dinners, bachelor and bachelorette parties to bridal showers.”
Supportive Local Business Community
Kin and Kilt appreciates the support of other local entrepreneurs.
“All of the downtown businesses seem to support each other. It’s amazing. Now that there’s the downtown Night Moves bus, I believe it will bring us more business,” Moodespaugh said.
To support other owners, over Thanksgiving weekend, Kin and Kilt offered 30 minutes of free axe throwing for anyone who brought in a receipt from another local businesses.
“That’s our way to support other downtown businesses,” Moodespaugh said.
Upcoming Events
In addition, Kin and Kilt is offering horse-drawn sleigh rides on New Year’s Eve for just $10 a person. Children 5 and under are free. Reservations can be made over the phone or at Kin and Kilt.
Kin and Kilt is looking forward to celebrating its two-year anniversary on January 4, 2025.
